Rent Stabilization and tenant protections

Background 

On May 30, 2023, the City Council introduced and conducted the first reading of Ordinance No. 736 adding Chapter 5.13 "Rent Stabilization" and Ordinance No. 737 repealing Chapter 5.12 "Rental Property" and adding 5.14 "Tenant Protections" to the Cudahy Municipal Code. On June 6, 2023, the City Council held a second reading approving both ordinances. On July 7, 2023, Ordinance Nos. 736 and 737 went into effect.

STAY INFORMED


MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE RENT INCREASE 

The maximum permissible annual rent increase is 3% between August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024. Cudahy residents who are not covered are subject to the State's maximum allowable annual rent increase of 8.8% (5%+3.8% (CPI/Inflation).


RENT MORATORIUM EXPIRED JULY 10, 2023

From October 19, 2022 to July 10, 2023, the City Council established a temporary prohibition on residential rent increases to multi-family residences city wide.
